Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes this past week! My birthday was pretty laid back and there is nothing wrong with that! Last weekend we went to the Florida Georgia Line (ft Backstreet Boys, Nelly and Chris Lane) for essentially my birthday present. It was an awesome concert! Even if you are not a fan of Florida Georgia Line they put on one hell of a show.
For my birthday I was also able to enjoy these things 🙂
I did meet up with a girlfriend on Wednesday for happy hour. We both signed up to be a part of their “club” and got free apps. Then because it was my birthday the day before I got a free dessert as well. You guys, it was bomb.com.
It was chocolate mousse, homemade graham cracker ice cream with marshmallow fluff and an in house made graham cracker. It was so good. We were both stuffed by the time we left!
After dinner, Bill and I headed to the VFW for some drinks. We weren’t there for too long though as we both wanted to go back and have a bonfire. Since it has been so nice outside (read: no humidity and about 75*), I have been looking forward to one.
Bill and I had a really lazy day. It was almost like a rainy Sunday. I started watching Empire and woah. Even though I have had people tell me this show was good, I had my reservations. Turns out they were 100% right! I am working my way through season 1 right now. We debated on going to a baseball game but by the time we were going to get tickets, it was sold out. So we decided to hit up one of our favorite places for a quick happy hour drink (Roadside) and then get some dinner. We had never heard of the place before but Dixie Blue BarBQue was good. We even made a little friend in the process!
The workers are not quite sure who she belongs to but she is super friendly and just kinda walks around to greet people. There are some apartments behind the restaurant so she may live over there.
We headed down to Minneapolis to meet up with some friends and enjoy the Taco Tour of Lake Street. Essentially, multiple places that serve authentic tacos served $1-2 tacos. When you paid $2 for the event fee, it came with 2 taco tickets for a place on the “tour”. There were 4 of us that went and each ticket we got was to some place different. Even though the tacos were very similar each place, some of them had interesting salsas to go on top. At the end we said we wouldn’t mind coming back down to enjoy a sit down meal at a couple of the places.
We returned home afterwords not hungry at all so I decided to do a little baking. Now baking is not my strong suit but we had some zucchini to use up so I decided to try my hand out with making some zucchini bread. I found this recipe and just went for it.
It turned out delicious! Even Bill said it was good and he hates ANYTHING to do with gourds (aka zucchini). While baking, I rounded out the evening with another episode of Empire.
This week is an exciting one. I decided to accept a new job with another agency so this is my last week at my current job. I will be taking next week off and then start my new job on August 21st. It is definitely a different job than I have now but I used to do a very similar job in Colorado so it won’t be completely new information. I will be working with veterans facing homelessness – a cause near and dear to my heart – so I am looking forward to these next couple of weeks!
