Woof. The last couple of week have been a whirl wind. What better way to update you all than with a random Thinking out Loud post!
~ Happy International Women’s Day! With so many crazy things going on in this world, it is so important to band together as a society! This years statement (from www.internationalwomensday.com) is: “Now, more than ever, there’s a strong call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity. There’s a strong call to #PressforProgress motivating and uniting friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.” So today, take time to thank those strong women in your life to make sure they know they are appreciated for everything that they do.
~ Speaking of strong women….my grandma Charlie was one of them. She was vibrant, stubborn, no F* given and honest. She passed away on Friday, February 23rd. She has been sick for as long as I can remember but for the last 10 months or so, she has not been doing very well. My mom was doing the majority of taking care of her and making sure things were put into place for the future. Although it was hard to say goodbye, I know that she is no longer suffering and that is what really matters.
~ Last week would have been my real father’s 58th birthday. He passed away in 2007 but I know that he is looking over our family. Especially now with my Grandma Charlie. Our little girl has some pretty special angels watching over her.
~ This upcoming weekend we are headed to Fargo. My brother is getting married in April so on the agenda is a bridal shower and then head out to some bachelor/bachelorette parties. Fargo also has two of my favorite restaurants so I am really looking forward to eating at BOTH while we are there! ps – they are HuHot and Moe’s Southwest Grill. If you have one near you, I HIGHLY suggest you go. Moe’s is kinda like Chipotle but so much better. I promise!
~ We have officially started on the baby girl’s nursery! This last weekend, I went through and purged a lot of stuff that had been in boxes for years. It honestly felt amazing. I am actually still working through other rooms but am confident it will all come together. I also found a side table ish thing that is white that I found for a steal at Marshalls. I actually went to the store earlier in the day on Saturday and liked it. But I left it there and ran some other errands. I ended up getting home and feeling a strong urge that I really wanted it so I went back out and sure enough, it was still there! Even though it was on clearance, I was able to get the manager to take some more $$ off since I found some scratches on the front (they will be super easy to fix). Then on Monday, Bill’s parents dropped off our crib. They kindly offered to buy the crib for us so after we found the one we wanted, they went ahead and ordered it. We still have it in the box but plan on putting it together soon!
~ Recently I have had a lot of recipes fail. Honestly, it is such a defeated feeling! I won’t mention the places I got them because it really isnt worth it. We get really bogged down by eating the same meals and/or me feeling like I need to make different things. If we would ever win the lottery…I would pay for a personal chef in a heartbeat. I did, however, find a gem with a recent baking attempt! Iowa Girl Eats – Healthier Zucchini Banana Bread Muffins.
I had some gluten free flour that I was trying to get rid of so I used that but next time I think I will go with regular flour!
~ I think that’s really it for now! I’ll leave you with some kitty and puppy pics 🙂
Ps- Mya loves the snow and I had to coax her back into the house in the last picture. She was covered in snow but didn’t have a care in the world!
